Long hike through the Alps, 10th stage, 6th stage (T2, easy mountain trails, partly driving lanes): Fifth day on the Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB) and perhaps the most beautiful route on the east side of Mont Blanc, if you look for these " High Route "decides, the weather is right and you can not be disturbed by the installations of ski tourism too much: landscape without end. And finally, the direct contact to the huge Miage glacier in detail, the raw power of the natural forces becomes palpable. At night, it had snowed a little from about 2200 m altitude and in the morning the sun shines from the bright blue sky: what a day! We stroll through the panorama and can barely grasp our hiking luck. The stage is not too long again and we have plenty of time to look and explore. Like the wild terrain on the edge moraine of the Glacier de Miage: every second, the stones trickling, tumbling and thundering down the stones in a dolina-like abyss of ice and debris on the edge of the glacier. At the Rifugio Elisabetta, the full force of the TMB trekking routine comes back to us, but here, too, there is perfect logistics, no matter how crowded the hut is. Chapeau.### route description
From the Rifugio Maison Vieille, the path climbs in a mostly moderate gradient in a southwesterly direction up the slope, first a bit in the forest, then over the open mats, which are ski slopes in winter. To the right, the Mont Blanc with its glaciers in full size, right over the shoulder, the Grandes Jorasses are not inferior in splendor. On a slope shoulder at almost 2400 m altitude, the highest point is reached. Rifugio Monzino, located on a ridge between the glacier tongues, is very close and down in the valley, the Glacier de Miage with its enclosed "garden" (Jardin de Miage) pours into the Val Veny.
In the area of the Alpe Arp Vieille we descend into the valley and reach the valley floor near the Rifugio Combal, a hut that is particularly popular with day-trippers in the Val Veny. It is a good idea to make a detour to Lago del Miage, the small glacier lake, and to the wildly raised terrain of the moraine glacier, which is paved with paths. Climbing tracks lead far up the moraine margin, but it is by no means safe to leave the marked paths. Finally, it almost goes up the valley up past the Lago Combal, the swampy terrain dammed by the moraine, and in a few turns up to the Rifugio Elisabetta, which is stored off the main path on a small terrain spurs in front of the glaciers.
