The Neusiedler See cycle path is one of the most popular cycle paths in the region, and rightly so: Because while you enjoy the view of the lake and its reed belt on idyllic cycle paths between wet meadows, vineyards and salt varnishes, there is a lot to discover.Since the bike tour leads completely around the lake and is therefore quite long, we recommend dividing it into two or three stages - then the individual sections are also fully family-friendly. Good places for an overnight stay can be found in Illmitz, Mörbisch am See, Rust, Podersdorf am See or at one of the numerous campsites on the lakeshore. If you want, you can also shorten the route and take the bike ferry from Illmitz over the lake to Mörbisch. This variant is particularly suitable for families with children because of the great boat trip. Since the route profile is quite flat and the bike paths are mostly well developed, you can of course complete the loop in one day and really work out.It starts in Neusiedl am See - since it is a round tour, you can also start the tour at any other point. Our tip: When choosing your starting point and the direction of travel, pay attention to the current wind direction. It can get quite windy around Lake Neusiedl and you know the wind is better in your back than in your face.On the eastern shore of the lake you drive through the villages of Weiden and Podersdorf am See and then along the national park to Illmitz. By the way, Podersdorf is the only place that is located directly on the shore. Here you can take a short break and watch the wind and kite surfers sweeping over the water. From Illmitz you drive in a large arc around the southern shore of the lake. The route runs mostly through Hungarian territory - don't forget your passport! In Hungary, the bike path signage may differ somewhat from that in Austria, and it will also be somewhat steeper. The well-developed bike path still ensures a pleasant ride and the view over the vineyards to the wide reed belt at the lake is really unique. From Mörbisch am See you cycle on Austrian cycle paths again, now you cycle through the villages of Rust, Oggau am Neusiedler See, Donnerskirchen and Purbach along the western shore of the lake. Not only once will you have the opportunity for a generous break. And on the way back to Neusiedl you will get your money's worth, both culinary and cultural - for example in one of the rustic wine bars in the old cellar lanes. Shortly before your destination, the seaside resort of Breitenbrunn offers a nice end to the tour around Lake Neusiedl.
