The Lackenradweg is also ideal for a day tour, which leaves you enough time to admire the wildlife at the salt lakes and around the lake or just stretch your legs. Again, you should definitely take binoculars with you if you have one.The tour starts in Podersdorf am See, as it is a round tour, but you can also consider starting in Sankt Andrä am Zicksee - this is also easy to reach by train. From Podersdorf it goes straight along the lakeshore into the National Park Neusiedler See - Seewinkel. A first viewing platform on the nature zone of the Illmitzer hell is not long in coming and you will be amazed how green hell can be. Shortly afterwards, the Heuriger invites you to Hell for a first rest - there are also fine wines from the Hölle winery. The route continues through the national park before it describes a change of direction inland after about twelve kilometers and from now on lives up to its name as it leads you past all the saline paints. The water level of these small bodies of water fluctuates around the year, in places they even dry out completely. This in turn offers the local flora and fauna a unique habitat. As you will have noticed, the Lackenradweg is completely flat and so it does not take long until you reach Sankt Andrä am Zicksee. It is worth taking a short bath here, because the water in the lake contains a lot of sodium, which is why it is said to have healing powers - ideal during a bike tour.If you would prefer to really relax, a stop at the St. Martins Therme is recommended on the way back. If, after the pleasantly warm bath, you no longer want to get comfortable on the saddle, you can also spend the night here and watch the birds over the salt coats in the sunset with a pair of field glasses. Our tip: When choosing your starting point and the direction of travel, pay attention to the current wind direction. It can get quite windy around Lake Neusiedl and you know the wind is better in your back than in your face.
