This Tour is a beautiful and challenging ride through the wilderness of Drenthe. Along the way you will pass the most beautiful fens and stream valleys. The start of the ride is near Hooghalen. After a few kilometers of cycling you arrive at the first Highlight of the day. This is one with a dark past. Camp Westerbork was an extermination camp during the Second World War. The memorial center houses an impressive museum.A watchtower is located further along the route. From the tower you have a beautiful view over the Amerdiep. This is a stream valley and also one of the upper reaches of the Drentsche Aa. The cycle path continues to the south. After crossing the provincial road N374, you cycle into the Elper river basin. This is a torrent that eroded during the Ice Age. The cycle path here runs through the typical wooded banks and stream and ash village landscapes. The road continues to the Bosmeer Ellertshaar. The lake was created as a result of sand extraction. The lake is beautiful. With a little bit of imagination you even imagine yourself abroad, because the area is somewhat like Canada. Two more beautiful surprises await you on the next part of the route. The first of the two is the leberenplas. The place is ideal for a picnic. A few kilometers away, an exciting piece of "bike path" awaits you. You cycle over a puddle via a wooden platform. Keep the balance well. From here it is a short distance to the end point.
