This route goes through the point between Arnhem and Nijmegen that is sandwiched between the Lower Rhine and Waal. The route is devoted to rivers, floodplains, fortresses and castles. You enter the Gelderse Poort via the Rijndijk. This nature reserve has many animal species such as wild horses and cattle, beavers and geese. In the floodplains of this area lies the castle Doornenburg and Fort Pannerden. The castle can be visited during a guided tour. The Fort, a crucial structure of the New Dutch Waterline, houses a museum, visitor center and museum. The route partly runs through the Betuwe. Thanks to its location between dikes and large rivers, the soil here is very fertile. Depending on the season in which you cycle through the Betuwe, you can pick your own apples, pears or cherries. From Nijmegen North, the cycle path runs a little further from the river. At Slijk-Ewijk the route bends towards the starting point. Near Elst you pass the train track through a brand new railway bridge with a beautiful design. The Tour ends again in Huizen.
