From Colle di Val d'Elsa there are many great tours, so it is not easy to highlight a special tour.
The round about Micciano and Volterra is characterized by the fact that it combines quite a few facets of the region in one tour. Tourist highlights, secluded villages and secluded roads are used.
At the beginning we leave Colle di Val d'Elsa to the south and soon turn onto a lonely side road towards Casole d'Elsa, which, like many beautiful places, sits on top of a hill.
After a quick descent with great views of the Elsa Valley, there is a steady ups and downs on good and little-used roads. Valleys, forests and hills with beautiful panoramic views alternate until you reach Pomerance the first larger town. He offers himself for a lunch break in the old town.
After a short descent on a major road we turn off to Micciano.
It goes down to the small river Trossa and from here on a road with beautiful views and a few hairpin bends up into the small, sleepy place that allows a fantastic panoramic view above the church.
In the village there is a small shop that has the bare necessities for hungry and thirsty racing cyclists on offer.
The following road down to the Cecina Valley is in the upper part a little worse than usual. But otherwise we are quite spoiled in this part of Tuscany by the great roads.
We do not stay long on the valley road, but choose an alternative route to Volterra.
It goes up via Montecatini Val di Cecina. We have Volterra in view and enjoy great views of the valley and the surrounding villages. An exhausting pleasure, after all, we already have a few kilometers and altitude in the legs.
Even if the coffee is a bit more expensive in Volterra, it offers a rest here.
The way back is on the SR68, a beautiful panoramic road that leads to Colle di Val d'Elsa.
She is a bit more traveled than we are used to. The road is quite wide and offers over many miles a wide margins, so that the remaining kilometers of this beautiful tour with three last short climbs can also be easily overcome.
