Do you know where the Swedish holes in Saxon Switzerland got their name from? During the Thirty Years' War in the 16th century, farmers used the gorge to hide their belongings from Swedish troops. If you hike through the rugged rock formations, you will immediately recognize that there are all sorts of good hiding places here. The romantic and at the same time adventurous gorge leads you between green walls and rugged rocks over approx. 700 steps and two steep iron ladders between Amselgrund and Gansweg to the Bastei.Spectacular views await you on the Bastei: at your feet the famous sandstone cliffs and on the horizon the Table Mountains rise south of the Elbe. A hike you will dream of long after you get back home!
