Promising full-day hike across the Großer Inselsberg to the Schmalkalde spring and further through the Kühle valley to Friedrichroda. From Wuthaer Mölmen it was initially quite comfortable over the Rehberg and the Deubacher Höhen to Schmerbach and further to Winterstein. In Schmerbach I was particularly impressed by the beautiful running fountains. The most strenuous part of the hike was the ascent from Winterstein to the Großer Inselsberg via the Schlotweg. In the refuge on the Schlotwiese, about halfway through, I first took a break before tackling the steepest part. Once at the top of the Inselsberg, I enjoyed the great view and the tasty lunch. We continued on the Rennsteig across the border meadow to the Großer Jagdberg. The descent to the Schmalkalde spring was very steep and partly overgrown, so I had even lost a short distance. The last part then led from the Heuberghaus through the wild and romantic cool valley with a small waterfall to Friedrichroda.
