The approximately 42-kilometer tour from Steinbach am Wald takes you along the legendary Rennsteig mountain trail to medieval Kronach with its imposing Rosenberg Fortress. You will overcome the approximately 240 positive meters in altitude in the first eight kilometers. After that, you only roll relaxed downhill. At the train station in Steinbach am Wald you start on the Rennsteigstraße, which leads you to the Rennsteig after one kilometer at the glass obelisk. Every year the largest trail run in Germany takes place on the famous path with the Rennsteig Run. If you are planning your tour for May, you should make sure that you do not collide with the approximately 15,000 runners who transform the cross-country route into a folk festival. The first two kilometers are the most strenuous, then the climb moderates and as soon as you have reached the border between Thuringia and Bavaria, you just dash down. The glass palace around Kleintettau creates a tropical flair. In the tropical house you can buy delicious fruits for the journey. At the place Alexanderhütte you roll into the idyllic Tettau valley and follow the course of the small river Tettau, which later flows into the Haßlach. And that accompanies you to your tour destination in pretty Kronach with its half-timbered houses and the impressive Rosenberg Fortress. You simply come back to Steinbach by train.Alternatively, you can also look for accommodation in Kronach, take the train to Steinach in the morning and cycle back to Kronach.
