Chiemsee-Chiemgau planned a hike.
May 24, 2020
The easy hike takes you on walking paths and hiking trails to the famous castle of King Ludwig II, to the cross chapel of the former monastery and bishopric (Diocese of Chiemsee) and to ancient trees. The easy hike begins at the landing stage on the Herreninsel. Past the waiting hall (here you can find the ship departure times) and the visitor pavilion (note: you can get the entrance tickets for the castle and the museum here) the path leads to the stairs that lead you up to the former monastery. To the Kreuzkapelle: From here you continue to the former Augustinian Canons, the former monastery on the island. There, keep to the left and go into the inner courtyard with its three large figures of saints. After leaving the courtyard through the archway, go through the former monastery economy and continue right on a small alley to the Kreuzkapelle on the northern tip of the island.Hiking to the castle view: along the bank a forest path leads you to the castle canal. Here you will be accompanied by mighty trees. On the canal itself you have a wonderful view of the castle. From here, continue along the gardens towards the castle. You can get back to the starting point from the castle via a beautiful walkway. You will be back at the jetty in about twenty minutes.
