Out of the city, into the forest. The ten-kilometer Frohn-Wald-Weg leads you on narrow paths and shady forest paths through the northwestern Saar coal forest. The mixed forest extends from Saarbrücken to Neunkirchen on an area of more than 60 square kilometers and runs through the Saarland as a green axis. The tour starts at the Lampenester hut in Riegelsberg, a bit north of the state capital. You walk through under gnarled, old trees, pass numerous streams and fountains as well as the small gorge of the Rödelbach. You can take a relaxing break on the banks of the Fröhner Pond. This tour is ideal for simply clearing your head, enjoying the fresh forest air and still keeping moving.
