A real treat: 13 breweries and the lovely landscape of Franconian Tuscany
13 breweries, inns and beer cellars, plus pretty half-timbered villages and the gentle hilly landscape of Franconian Tuscany - if that's not a motivation for the hiker! The Bavarian State Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Forestry awarded the 13 brewery trail as one of “100 places of pleasure in Bavaria”. In addition to selling their beers, some breweries also offer brewery tours and beer cuisine.
On the 34 km long route hike you should allow enough time for a break - that's why it's best to hike smaller sections. The path can be hiked in both directions and is well marked (13 brewery path with beer barrel).
It starts in Memmelsdorf on the main street, bus stop "Memmelsdorf Markt". The first two brewery inns Three Kronen and Höhn are located here, opposite the church of the Assumption worth seeing, a few hundred meters away from Seehof Palace. We follow the markings along Bahnhofstrasse and cross the A70 towards Weichendorf on the bike and hiking trail. There we walk towards Merkendorf to the Hummel and Wagner breweries. On the Pointstrasse towards Drosendorf we keep left to cross the A70 again. In Drosendorf we come across the Göller brewery. From here we keep on the Scheßlitzer Str. Towards Meedensdorf.
If you already have enough with five breweries, hike from Meedensdorf back to Memmelsdorf (black diamond mark or cycle path on the country road). All others cross Meedensdorf and follow the marking to Schammelsdorf to the Knoblach brewery.
Those who prefer a shorter route can only get started in Schammelsdorf. From Litzendorfer Str., Turn left into Stammbergstr. Direction Schammelsberg. We hike through idyllic forest to Tiefenellern to the Hönig brewery / inn "Zur Post" (with playground). We then follow the signs towards Lohndorf to the Reh and Hölzlein breweries. If a small round is enough for you, you can return from Lohndorf to shortly before Litzendorf (via Martinsanger) to Schammelsdorf (bike path parallel to the road, without marking).
If you want to hike the 13 brewery path completely, continue from Lohndorf to Melkendorf. The former Winkler brewery there is only open on certain dates as a “brandholz brewery”. In Geisfeld we come to the Krug brewery (temporarily closed) and the Griess brewery with a semolina cellar (with a playground). We keep going via "Zum Steinich" southwest to Roßdorf a.F. to the brewery Gasthof Sauer. Via Dorfstr. it goes "to the rock cellar" (Rossdorfer rock cellar, with playground) and further along the Geisfeld brook. We leave Amlingstadt on the left (worth seeing: St. Agidius Church), hike along the Zeegenbach, cross the A73 and finally come to Strullendorf. The S-Bahn takes us to Bamberg or Nuremberg. By the way: Mondays and Tuesdays are closed at many breweries.
    Getting there:
    Memmelsdorf center, bus stop "Memmelsdorf-Markt",
    Strullendorf S-Bahn station
    Tourist Attractions:
Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Memmelsdorf, Fachwerkensemble Roßdorf a.F., Church of St. Aegidius Amlingstadt, Church of St. Laurentius Strullendorf
    Refreshments:
Memmelsdorf, Merkendorf, Drosendorf, Schammelsdorf, Tiefenellern, Lohndorf, Geisfeld, Roßdorf a.F., Amlingstadt, Strullendorf
    Marking: "13 breweries way"

@Reimund 🙏🏽 GSD the 🍻 breweries currently have 🚱 closed otherwise you would have a real problem after the 🦠 Corona crisis - a 🍻 alcohol problem 😂😂😂

Hey, thank you all! 🙏 Was a great tour over the ridges above the Ellerbach valley. Today part 2 through the Franconian Tuscany.
Markus: I don't think so. A beer from time to time is quite nice, but I prefer a glass 🍷 ... 😊

Nice that you describe the tour so well. I live near the starting point and know the way with the breweries very well 😋 I can only recommend it !!!
The best thing is to plan to Corona and use the refreshments and plan a day trip out of it 🤪
    Otherwise aweng is dry 🥵
