On the 14-kilometer tour of the Schlossberg, you hike a piece of history. You get to know the ruins of the Hohenburg and walk to the remains of a once magnificent fairytale castle. The circular hike starts at the parking lot on the Hohenburg in Homburg. The Hohenburg ruin towers over the city of Homburg. You have a great view from the former castle complex. The ruin is well preserved and you can explore the former fortress via numerous stairs and rocky passages - either to get you in the right mood for your hike or to save it for the end of the tour. You leave the castle complex and start your hike on a flat route along the Schlossberg. The path leads you past Celtic cultural sites on the blunt summit. Mystical rituals and traditions are said to have been carried out here 2,000 years ago. You continue to walk through the forest and soon reach the Karlsberg pond. It is part of the former garden that belonged to Karlsberg Castle. Only the remains of the fairytale castle can still be seen, but you still get a good feeling for how magnificent the complex with the "Karlslust" landscape park was - including the bear kennel, orangery and pheasant shop.Through the forest you hike back to the Hohenburg ruins. At the end of your hike, a visit to the Schlossberg caves is worthwhile. They are among the largest sandstone caves in Europe. During a tour, you will learn everything about the man-made mine.
