Without a doubt, the climb to Teide is the most famous, exciting and challenging hike in Tenerife. This tour takes you over the Montaña Blanca on the eastern slope of the Teide up to the viewpoint Mirador de la Fortaleza just below the crater rim. From there you have a spectacular view over the Caldera des Teide and up to the neighboring islands in the Atlantic.Although the Teide is the most popular excursion destination in Tenerife, there is rarely a crush on the hiking trail - most visitors take the cable car to the summit. We only recommend this challenging tour at lofty heights to experienced hikers.Your hike to Teide begins at the Montaña Blanca hiking car park. At first, the hiking trail winds through the barren scree desert up to the summit of the Montaña Blanca, an extinct volcano. You will also pass the famous black Teide eggs, huge lava stone blocks that lie in the middle of the red-brown desert. The tour takes you steeply up over the vegetation-free, rock-strewn mountain slope - a unique, dramatic landscape. You have reached your destination at the Refugio de Altavista mountain hut, because you will only climb the 3,718-meter summit of the Teide the next day. After a relaxing night in the refugio, the next day you start early in the morning to the summit, which you reach at sunrise. The scenery is bathed in a fairytale light and the entire island is at your feet. When you've had enough of the view, you hike back to the starting point on the same route that you climbed the day before.Bus line 342 takes you from Adeje on the south coast and bus line 348 from Puerto de la Cruz on the north coast directly to the starting point of the tour.
