This hike is an experience, especially in the late afternoon or early evening, when the low-lying sun makes the red tones of the rock shine even more intensely. The shadows of the volcanoes, the special vegetation and the colors of the sky are unique in the world and give you the feeling of being on a distant planet.
The starting point of this hike is at the Mirador de las Narices del Teide, which is surrounded by a surreal, stony landscape. Plan enough time for the way back and take a headlamp with you. You walk across open, barren lava and pumice fields to the Cuevas Negras. There are smaller and larger caves that are worth a closer look. On both sides of the path there are peaks over 2,000 meters high and offer an impressive sight. The sun can still shine strongly in Tenerife in the late afternoon, so don't forget to bring enough water and sun protection with you.
In the Teide National Park you can encounter a variety of birds that are under protection. A breathtaking panorama awaits you at the Sámara volcano: Your gaze wanders over the reddish rock of the rocky mountain landscape, which contrasts with the green splashes of color of the Canarian pines and cedars. At sunset you will experience a colorful spectacle that will be replaced by the glittering starry sky.You can reach the starting point of the hike at the Mirador de las Narices del Teide by rental car. The way back is the same as you came.
