This hike starts in the idyllic village of El Palmar. Pass the church on a side street to the abandoned Las Cuevas quarry, where innumerable species of cacti and succulents have settled on the stony terraces. You cross wide fields and the small settlements Las Portelas with their traditional houses. During this tour you can enjoy wonderful views of the Chinyero volcano, which last erupted in 1909. The eruptions continued for ten days. You hike steadily uphill and soon leave civilization behind: the hike takes you over deep green slopes to the lookout point Casas de la Cumbre, from which you can enjoy an impressive panorama to the Atlantic. In spring, the path is lined with colorful flowers and blooming shrubs.It continues with great views and below the Cruz de Gala summit you reach the highest point of this hike at 1,227 meters. Then you zigzag down a stream to Santiago del Teide, your destination today. In the photogenic place you will find a beautiful church, narrow streets and traditional restaurants.You can reach the starting point in El Palmar with the bus lines 355, 365 and 366. In Santiago del Teide you can get on the lines 325, 355, 460, 461 and 462.
