The Thurntaler is a popular hiking area in the Villgrater mountains. This round trip, which starts after a gondola ride in Sillian, leads you in a loop around the slightly more than 2,400-meter-high summit and delights with a magnificent panorama: the view sweeps over the Villgrater mountains, the Carnic Alps and South Tyrolean Dolomites to the Grossglockner, Austria's highest summit. The Almgasthaus Thurntaler Rast and the panorama restaurant Gadein at the mountain station of the gondola invite you to stop along the hike. On your round you will also pass the picturesque Thurntaler lakes. Take a break at the quiet mountain lakes, so you can let the unique panorama in peace on you.The 6-seater gondola in Sillian takes you to the mountain station at the Thurntaler and then on the path 10b to the outer Hochalm with a fantastic panoramic view over the Pustertal and to the Sexten Dolomites. The path 10 continues over green alpine meadows to the ridge. From there you follow the path down to the rear Hochalmhütte on the Villgrater side. Here the path 10b leads you over the Hofilet Alm to Thurntaler Rast and back to the mountain station Thurntaler.
