Hiking Highlight (Segment)
Schwarzwald Tourismus planned a hike.
January 30, 2020
The fourth stage has a very special highlight for you - in the truest sense of the word. With a height of 1,163 meters, the Hornisgrinde is the highest peak in the Northern Black Forest. From the summit, you then hike roughly parallel to the Black Forest high road via comfortable forest paths to the refuge pass, your today's destination. From Unterstmatt you hike right up to the Hornisgrinde - but since the starting point is already quite high, you only have a 200m climb ahead of you. A barren meadow and moor landscape awaits you at the top of the extensive Hornisgrinde plateau. You can enjoy the already magnificent view even better on the two towers Bismarck and Hornisgrindenturm. From the summit you hike down a wide bend to the picturesque Mummelsee. However, it is located directly on the Black Forest High Road and it can get quite crowded here on weekends. If you are too busy at the lake, you can continue your hike straight away. The hiking trail now runs parallel, but a few meters away from the Black Forest high road through the forest. You hike here on easy forest paths to the Seibelseckle, where you can take a break at the small rest hut.You continue your tour on natural hiking trails. The Westweg follows the natural course of a mountain range and between the conifers you can enjoy the view of the Black Forest in various places. If you haven't needed a break at Seibelseckle yet, you can also stop at the Darmstadt hut or in the Ruhesteinschänke. From the Ruhesteinschänke it goes uphill again to the Schliffkopf, at the top of which you can enjoy a great panorama. Then you hike gently downhill to the refuge stage. The only accommodation on site is the Natur- und Sporthotel Zuflucht, where you can spend the night comfortably.
