The first stage of the Stoneman Taurista is a tough one: Over 2,200 vertical meters you have to overcome and that over a distance of around 58 kilometers. Yes, there is a lot of climbing today! It starts in Flachau with the first “treat” of the day: the ascent to the Grießenkar, where your stamina is put to the test for the first time. Take it easy, because the long climb is exhausting. Fortunately, it is worth stopping briefly almost everywhere and enjoying the beautiful mountains. Instead of carrot and stick, there are burning calves and astonished looks today! Once at the top you really deserve a break in the Kogelalm. The subsequent descent is a dream: a rooty, but still flowing trail leads you down to Wagrain and uses the routes of the bike park of the same name. Singletrack bullets at their finest. And if that gets too violent for you, you still have the option to roll down the forest path. The checkpoint at the Edelweiß Alm is a great opportunity to shake your arms and replenish your energy stores. Now follows a more relaxed passage that takes you to the Enns Valley. The calm before the storm, the second prank called Rossbrand. Hold on, grit your teeth and push a bit - it's worth it! On the 1,768 meter high Rosssbrand you are compensated by a breathtaking view of the more than 150 Alpine peaks all around for every drop of sweat. Now it's time to enjoy. Finally, a flowing trail winds mostly downhill to Mandling. On the Mandlberggut you can stop at the cozy snack station or book one of the quaint self-catering houses to stay.If you run out of strength on the way, I suggest two options for a Plan-B: If you notice in time that this stage is a little too demanding, just drive all the way to Wagrain. You can find accommodation here, ride the rest of the day in the bike park and just stop when you feel like it. If you have already driven on, you can skip the second climb up to the Rossbrand and instead cycle quite relaxed over the Enns cycle path to the stage goal.
