Söhni 🏃 and elisabeth planned a hike.
January 7, 2020
15.53 km / 04:30 h / 227 m / 214 m / max. 228 meters above sea levelOur way today leads us largely through populated areas. Accordingly, the proportion of asphalt sections is quite high. After we have left the long stretch of settlement O Porriño with the heavily trafficked national road, we go through several scattered settlements uphill, sometimes more, sometimes less steeply, until we pass our highest point of the day's stage in Barreiros at 228 meters altitude. A Roman milestone indicates that we are here with the Camino, as on many other sections of the path, on a former Roman road.It goes steadily downhill via the towns of Vilar de Infesta and Padrón until we come to the main road in O Quinteiro and after one kilometer have reached the town of Redondela, which has 7,500 inhabitants, after one kilometer. Since this city is located on the Bay of Vigo and thus on the Atlantic Ocean, we can treat ourselves to a swim in the late afternoon - albeit away from the port. Our quarter in Redondela is the Renaissance-style manor house "Casa de Torre", which houses a gallery and a small library as well as the modernly equipped public pilgrim hostel.
In the morning we have the opportunity to visit the Romanesque-Gothic cathedral of Tui before we start our pilgrimage in Porriño (transfer). A Roman milestone in Mos and Barreiras testifies to the long tradition of this pilgrimage route. We follow the historic Way of St. James to Redondela and reach the sea at Cesantes.
