Our starting point is the pilgrim hostel in Ponte de Lima, which is located next to the Guardian Angel Church on the north side of the Lima River. Today's tour is one of the most scenic stages of the Portuguese Camino with a large proportion of paths, field and forest paths. In addition, we still reach the highest point of the entire tour today.
At the beginning of the hike, we cross the motorway twice before we slowly pass several small scattered settlements and later climb more and more steeply through a pine forest. In the area of the settlements, we must not overlook the “Fonte das Três Bicas” fountain in order to refill our water bottles in front of the pass.
After a further climb in the shady pine forest we reach a cross. Napoleon's troops were ambushed here - during the occupation of the Iberian Peninsula between 1808 and 1814.
After a short time, we reached the highest point with the “Portela Grande” pass with 400 meters of altitude and are rewarded with a magnificent view for the hardships of the climb. The descent up to 200 meters in altitude to our daily destination of the Rubiães pilgrim hostel is only a relaxing affair.

When leaving Ponte de Lima, we first cross the Roman bridge and keep seeing the well-known Quintas (country houses). Our first stage then leads us through forests and vineyards. From Labruja, our path rises slightly and leads us to today's stage destination Rubiães.

Longing lives in man, which drives him out of the monotony of everyday life and from the narrowness of his familiar surroundings. The other, the foreign, always attracts him.
