The final day of the tour closes the South-Eastern outer loop, from Braemar back to Blair Atholl covering 37 miles (60 km). Start by heading South-West along the road next to Morrone Birkwood National Nature Reserve and back to the Lin O’Dee. Regretted not taking that splash before? Why not today!

Continue following the road with a gentle incline, the same road that you took before on the inner loop, before you reach Geldie Burn where you hit new territory. Follow the golden gravel road and be sure not to pass by the ruins of Bynack Lodge without having a look. Heading South on the trail now passing into singletrack territory, leave Mar Lodge Nature Reserve behind you and start the gentle descent to the River Tilt.

Immediately start climbing again as you contour around the river valleys and start to head up to 2130 feet (650 meters), the final high point of the trip. Off the top, follow down the trail by Allt Fearnach, the path widening here to doubletrack. Nearing the Southern edge of the Cairngorms, you’ll pass by some impressive mountains, with Carn nan Gabhar at 3677 feet (1121 meters). Tackle the last climb of the day here before descending pretty much all the way back to Blair Atholl, the trail widening to doubletrack then paved road past Loch Moraig and into the village. Time for a feast and celebration on completing the Cairngorms Loop!
