Of course, a trip to the Cinque Terre is a must on our trips to Liguria (see the tour "Cinque Terre in a clockwise direction" komoot.de/tour/26130120). The tour described there is the shortest option from Chiavari to drive the entire Cinque Terre. With 145km and 2500 meters altitude no easy tour. However, starting from Chiavari, there are some less demanding ways to travel along beautiful stretch of coastline bordering the Cinque Terre area. Outstanding is certainly the drive over Levanto and Bonassola and the ascent to the Passo del Bracco.
This climb is actually the end of the tour. Start driving along the Gulf of Tigullio to Sestri Levante. Drive in 8 kilometers flat, you rarely have that here! Even after that it continues pleasantly, the ascent to the Passo della Mola is never steep and always has flat sections. The further up you get, the more beautiful and lonely he becomes. In good visibility you can see from the top of the pass the Apuan Alps, which are towering behind La Spezia.
The descent leads into Varatal, which is also followed a long way. It would also lead to the sea behind La Spezia already in Tuscany. But we choose a much more interesting option. Right path leads a small road through the remote Memolatal. Beautiful, Navi and GPX track advantageous.
After Pignone we head up to Passo del Termine, from where a fast descent to the coast leads to Levanto.
Really great that you have here converted the old railway line to a bike path that connects the coastal towns of Levanto, Bonassola and Framura. So you drive flat through the old railway tunnels to Bonassola, always gazes dreamlike views of the azure blue sea and suddenly comes out of the tunnel in the seaside resort of Bonassola.
The path from here to the more than 600 meters high Passo del Bracco is one of the most beautiful climbs in the region. One is fully exposed to the sun, which can be wonderful in the spring and very hot in the summer. After climbing you can enjoy fresh spring water at the Rennradfahrerbrunnen Valico del Guaitarola.
Then follow undulating kilometers to the pass of the Bracco, which offer views over the entire Gulf of Genoa.
The descent from the Passo del Bracco to Sestri Levante runs on a wide, well-developed road, the Mediterranean to the left. A nice end to a tour typical of Liguria: mare e monti.
