Along the natural course of the hare, the trail leads you first to Herzlake and then into the Hahnenmoor, which today is protected. A historic peat plant shows how the natural landscape has changed through the earlier human use - in part at lectures and film screenings in the industrial monument, but especially on the outside area. Here, typical natural and cultivated plants such as buckwheat and berry bushes thrive, here you can see the tools of the peat cutters and the beehives of the beekeepers. On the way you will get to know the moorland, which ends shortly after the border to Osnabrück. On the edge of a large wooded area, you will reach the Stift Börstel, an almost 800-year-old Cistercian monastery, which is still inhabited and cultivated today by religious sisters. In addition to the historic buildings and the monastery garden, especially the all-summer music events are worth seeing.Through the Börsteler forest, a protected area within the UNESCO Global Geopark TERRA.vita, you pass the Hahnenmoor and through idyllic villages back to Haselünne. Here you can finally see the local museum with its picturesque ensemble of six half-timbered houses.
