The 86 meter high Haarberg was the first ancestral home of the von Münchhausen family.
The ancestors of the "Lying Baron" Hieronymus von Münchhausen were able to enjoy a wide view over the landscape all the way to the Steinhuder Meer from the Haarberg. Only a memorial stone today points to the demise of the village of Münchhausen (Mönnekehusen) in 1519.
However, in the church in Rehburg you can still find the former Münchhausen baptismal font, which was given to the pastor at the time, and the base of the pulpit from the former chapel.
