The name Wenden originated in the early Middle Ages as a result of a misspelling Roman officials. In parts of present-day northern Italy lived the non-Slavic tribe of "Vendi" or "Venethi". The spelling error became a collective term for Eastern and Southern European peoples who did not live in their own state. The Sorbs did not have their own state either. Thus the double name Sorben / Wenden was born. The Fliehburgen originated from the Battle of the Slavs (Wenden, Wagrier) in the 6th century like the battle of the Saxons.

I find such historical places very interesting - even if not much is left of them today. If you stand calmly and reverently, you can imagine how it used to be here and what hustle and bustle prevailed here.
