Toro de Cuerda Monument, Grazalema

Highlight • Monument

The bronze monument "Toro de Cuerda", inaugurated in January 2014, is located in the Plaza Pequeña in the historic center of the small town of Grazalema. The monument, which shows a life-size fighting bull pulled by two men, was designed by the sculptor Alfredo Fillol Talens. It commemorates the traditional Grazalemeña festival of the rope bull, which is celebrated every year on the first Monday after July 16th.

It was built after the Muslim Reconquest of Grazalema (1485) on top of an old Mudejar temple.
Simple, with gleaming whites and extraordinary beauty, it is the temple of the patron saint of Grazalema, San Atanasio, and of Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno, being able to contemplate in its High Altar a neoclassical temple with the image of the Incarnation and the Holy Family.

Cave of the Two Doors

Highlight (Segment) • Cave

Unfortunately, the path was probably blocked on a slope with a lot of rubble and we had great difficulty finding the path. It's not entirely safe at this point. Sometimes you had to climb more than hike.😟

But the view from the Cueva de las Dos Puertas is magnificent. 😀

Views of Peñón Grande

Highlight • Viewpoint

El Peñón Grande is located right next to the Tajo Rodillo campsite and is the gateway to many hiking trails in the area. This limestone formation is very iconic in Grazalema, as it can be seen from practically any point in the town. The ridge reaches a maximum height of 1353 meters. To climb it is necessary to have climbing knowledge.

Grazalema

Highlight • Settlement

Grazalema, at the highest point of the Sierra that bears the same name, is a picturesque town nestled in limestone, under the 'Peñón Grande', which seems to caress the sky.
It belongs to that select group of towns that has the privilege of wearing the cataloging of ‘Most Beautiful in Spain’, a distinction that it has worn since January 2017 and which only 79 Spanish towns can boast of.
