Water Tower at Oldenburg Harbor

The 33 m high round tower stands on a polygonal base. Plastered pilasters structure the brickwork of the shaft. Windows are set into the fields between the pilasters on four sides. The steel water tank is located at the top. It has a capacity of 500 m³ and is now clearly visible. It was originally covered with plaster. A tent roof tops the building.
Original use
The tower was built in 1908 by the architect Köhler on behalf of the Grand Ducal Railway Directorate. It served to supply water to the steam locomotives and later also supplied water for the hydrants at Oldenburg Central Station. The water tank was not filled with drinking water, but with water from the Hunte. The water quality was sufficient for the purposes.

But then you see it already, this huge bridge that leads the A29 over the Huntetal. In the meantime, the imposing building with its 8 posts is showing its age and needs to be restored or replaced. But you know, on the way out of the city or back in along the Hunte, the Hunte Bridge is the impressive monument from which every excursion actually begins or ends.
Behind the Bornhorster Huntewiesen nature reserve and the Moorhauser Polder spread out. Maybe you are drawn to the Weser via Huntebrück and Elsfleth. Or you just do a lap around Oldenburg, in parts or completely. In any case, the sight of the Huntebrücke will remain in your memory as a piece of modern building aesthetics.
The view from the bridge is also worthwhile. However, there are a few steps to climb.
