The pilgrimage basilica of Our Lady of Klein-Mariazell is one of the oldest shrines on the Mariazell Trail.

The ceiling frescoes by Johann Wenzel Bergl are beautiful.

In the crypt are the roots of the centuries-old tree of reconciliation, which is linked to the founding of the monastery.

The basilica of Klein-Mariazell has been the center of the parish of the same name since the Middle Ages and also fulfilled the function of a monastery church for Benedictine monks between around 1120 and 1782.

The monastery Klein-Mariazell was originally a Benedictine abbey in the monastery settlement of Klein-Mariazell in the market town of Altenmarkt an der Triesting in Lower Austria. After the monastery was abolished in 1782 and the former monastery building was largely demolished in 1964, after more than 200 years of interruption in the 2000s, the monastic tradition was resumed by the construction of a new monastery building. The remains of the former monastery building are under monument protection.
Under the babenberg margrave Leopold III. the saint Klosterneuburg Abbey, Heiligenkreuz Abbey and Klein-Mariazell Abbey were founded.
