When the Goldenes Tälchen was built in 1926, it was the largest and most modern outdoor pool in the Leipzig area: 1.5 hectares of water, a 10-meter diving tower, water slides, a children's pool, sunbathing lawns, a restaurant, and a bicycle hall attracted thousands of recreational visitors. Sports competitions were held, as were swimming lessons and ice skating in the winter.
In 1991, the city council decided to close the pool and renaturalize it.
The nature trail was an initiative of the hunting association.
