On the Premium Erzgräberwanderweg is the late Celtic fortification, the Birg. A visible wall adjoins the two-hectare height attachment on three sides, the fourth side is formed by a 30-meter-dropping rock wall. Finds testify to the treverischen residents. The fortifications lost their function after the Gallic War (58-51 BC).

Two rest areas with tables and benches for resting (e.g. on the Erzgräberweg, geological hiking trail Schmelz, robber baron trail). Information boards on geology and history. Fortification from Celtic times (ground monument), breathes history and has atmosphere.

The "Birg" in Schmelz-Limbach is one of the best researched fortifications in the Saarland, because in the 1970s and 1980s, nine excavation campaigns were carried out by the Saarland University's Institute for Pre- and Early History. The "Birg" was essentially a refuge in times of unrest and was used from the late Celtic period to the early Middle Ages.
