Salt was produced in Bad Oldesloe in the Middle Ages, for which many people were employed in the salt works in the 18th century. This happened in the Besten lowlands, where saline springs favored the construction of a "salt works". Energy for this task was obtained from the hydropower of the Trave.

A great building ensemble, which gives a nice impression of the economy in the old time. Water was just a significant energy factor. Unfortunately, only fragments of the story are preserved everywhere.
