The exterior architecture of Benrath Palace, with the main building and cavalier wings, is in a representative Baroque style, with the wings on the reception side comprising half of the circular castle pond. Like the elongated rectangular MIRROR WIRE on the garden side, it was designed to mirror the façades in the water. The entire water architecture is fed by the Itter.

The park is characterized by bodies of water such as palace and mirror ponds as well as a cascade and the gardens of the Electress and the Elector in front of the electoral apartments. The park with its integrated gardens and water areas is inextricably linked with the palace architecture.
