In 1996, the magistrate in Idstein considered the request to put up a memorial plaque on the witch tower, which was inaugurated on November 22, 1996 as part of an ecumenical service.
During the Idstein witch trials (1676-1677), 31 women and 8 men were executed and 4 women were expelled from the country.
