Beautiful scenic section of cycling between Sir-Jansland and De Beldert. The dike water is a well-known nature area under the care of Staatsbosbeheer. Due to the livestock and management, the dike water provides a wealth of flowers and various types of plants, some important species are, for example, Harlequin Orchid, Rite and Marsh Helleborine, Bee Orchid, Adder's Tongue, Rattlesnake, Comb Grass and sedge species. From Sir you can easily reach De Beldert where a wine farm is located. When you go towards Nieuwerkerk and you come over the dike, you will see cheese farm "De Stolpe" on the right.

The water that lies before you here is a remnant of the old sea channel the 'Gouwe'. Long ago this water separated Schouwen from Duiveland. After the flood disaster of 1953 the water was closed off from the Grevelingen with a new dike. Remnants of the old agricultural harbours and the channel can still be found in the landscape.
Wonderful to dream away to a period of prosperity at this place. In your mind you can still see boats passing by here. Wonderful this historical geographical point.
