As part of the Port of Liverpool, Canning Half Tide Dock forms the connection between Canning Dock and Albert Dock and is also the entrance to the dry dock. The river water level is regulated via approximately 14 m long lock gates, and access to the “masonry island” is via swing bridges. Adjacent to the dock is the former pilot building, which was converted into a museum in 1980. Both the building and the dock itself are now part of the Merseyside Maritime Museum.
