Varkasaig Beach, also known as Orbost Beach, is a beautiful tidal beach on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. It is located on Loch Bharcasaig, a sea loch that opens into the Atlantic Ocean. The beach has shimmering black sand, which is volcanic in origin and composed of basalt. The sand absorbs and retains the sun’s warmth, making the water more pleasant for paddling. The beach offers stunning views of Harlosh Island and the Cuillin mountains. It is a great place to enjoy nature and wildlife, as you may see deer, seabirds, and eagles in the surrounding forest and sky.

Varkasaig Beach is known locally as Orbost Beach. It's a stunning place, off the obvious tourist trail but much loved by locals. The sand and rock is black which looks amazing. The sea is clear, and you can jump in off the rocks if you fancy a refreshing dip.

Look out for seals, deer and both golden and white-tailed eagles.

Access the beach down the track from Orbost Farm, if you fancy a wild adventure run out to Macleod's Maidens along the track heading south.
