The heart of Kerkdriel is formed by the Mgr. Zwijsenplein, named after former archbishop Joannes Zwijsen who came from Kerkdriel. Mgr. Zwijsen looks out over the square to the former town hall that dates from 1888. This square used to be called D'n Delkant. Here is the weekly market and entertainment center. In July there is a local fair and an annual fair.

To Mgr. Zwijsenplein 2 is the former town hall (1888), designed by architect Derk Semmelink. This is in neo-Renaissance style and has a bell tower with onion-shaped crown. (Wikipedia)

Kerkdriel aan de Maas in Gelderland was already referred to as Driela around 815. The village originated on a ridge of the Maas, the river that in the 1930s, after adjustments, came to lie further south.
