The Neustadt church was built in the 14th century as a Protestant church. After it was taken over by the County of Hesse, much of the inventory was taken over from the Catholic Old Town Church.

The church is open and can be visited. There is also a monument to David Clément in the immediate vicinity.

David Clément was the first preacher of the French church. Under his leadership, the three Huguenot settlements of Kelze, Schöneberg and Carlsdorf were established. Many French also settled in Hofgeismar. He died here in 1725 and was buried in the Neustadt church.

The construction of the Neustadt church began in 1341. At that time it was the fourth large church in Hofgeismar. After the Huguenots moved in, it was made available to them as a place of worship. The church is always open during the day.
