The Isthmus of Corinth is an isthmus that connects the Peloponnese and mainland central Greece. In ancient times, the isthmus was crossed by towing ships on sleds across the rocky isthmus. It has been easier since the 19th century (laid out 1881-93), since the Corinth Canal (6.34 km long, 24.5 m wide) has been located here. It connects the Isthmus of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf.
