Ciclism

From this spot, Francis Drake (1540-1596) is said to have seen the invincible Spanish Armada coming in 1588, but nevertheless decided to finish his ball game before going into battle. It is more likely that he has been waiting for the tide to turn. What is certain is that this place offers an ideal view of the shipping traffic in the Sound, the natural harbor at the mouth of the Tamar and the Plym

The Hoe is a beautiful area of Plymouth with panoramic views over the Plymouth Sound. On sunny days, it's a popular place to enjoy a picnic on the grass or go for a swim in the art deco Tinside Lido, which is open during the summer.

Look out for the statue of Sir Francis Drake, the local hero and famous explorer, located on the green. He played a game of bowls here before defeating the Spanish Armada in 1588.
