The Fleckenmauer is the late medieval fortification of Dalsheim, today a district of Flörsheim-Dalsheim. It is the only almost completely preserved medieval fortification in Rhine-Hesse.
The wall is about 1.1 km long and consists of 80 cm thick limestone. According to the latest findings, this building must have been completed as a uniform new building between 1470 and 1490. A battlement ran along the entire length of the wall, part of which can be visited. It was also protected by seven towers, all of which have been preserved. In 1689 Flörsheim-Dalsheim was burnt down in the "Succession War". There are only 17 families remaining in the village. Therefore, I disagree with the statement "... only almost completely preserved medieval town fortification of Rheinhessen ...". As threats from the surrounding area continued to exist in the 18th century, the fortifications were removed. The stain wall reflects this character much more, even if it may be on medieval foundations. In the early 19th century, the stain wall lost its function as a protective wall and was increasingly integrated into the village extension.
