During the construction of the paddle pond in 1973, one came across remains of a human settlement from the Carolingian period of the 8th to 9th centuries. Dr. Karlwerner Kaiser, Walter Ehscheid and Alfons Rohner arranged an emergency excavation. The settlement had to be flooded by fire after its destruction by fire and remained untouched for centuries. One preserved a one-meter-thick cultural layer of charred beams, clay chunks and wickerwork prints and partially decorated with rolling stamp patterns ceramic discs.
