This is the place where on 4 September 1944 the English liberators crossed the Rupel and were able to outwit the Germans. A Sherman tank now stands "as a war memorial" on the Rupel border at the wrought iron portal arch of the former Van Endschodt Bridge. This is in memory of the successful crossing of three Sherman tanks on 4 September 1944. This important bridge was 'the keyhole' for the successful liberation of the city of Antwerp.
