The Mordgrundbach Flood Retention Basin is a man-made lake nestled in the scenic Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge district of Saxony, Germany, near the village of Hellendorf. The Mordgrundbach flood retention basin is part of the Eastern Ore Mountains dam system. It was built between 1960 and 1966 and, together with the Buschbach flood retention basin, protects the Bahra, which flows into the Gottleuba. The pool is operated in partial permanent storage. This means that it is always partially filled with water. That is why it is also popular with anglers. At high tide, it can hold a maximum of 1.27 million cubic meters of water.
