Thalbürgel is a district of the town of Bürgel in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia. The church of St. Peter and St. Paul forms the center of the village.

Thalbürgel came into being when the Thalbürgel monastery was founded in 1133. In the years that followed, the village developed around the monastery church in the middle. The neighboring town of Bürgel was founded as planned in the 13th century, and is therefore somewhat younger than Thalbürgel. The monastery church still defines the townscape today and is one of the most important Romanesque churches in Thuringia. Next to the monastery church there is a granary that houses a local history museum. There is a beautiful monastery pond in the village.
