In the past, the Rodebach was a lifeline for the Selfkant. Together with the tributaries Krümmelbach and Saeffeler Bach, 14 watermills were operated on it between Stahe and Isenbruch. After the Congress of Vienna, long stretches of the creek became the border between Germany and the Netherlands. Today, after the water mills have stopped grinding, the region strives with the 700 ha nature and landscape park Rodebach / Roode Beek on both sides of the border as a destination for gentle tourism.
