The Grand Ducal Stables were built in the immediate vicinity of the ducal palace and as an extension of the inner-city street Großer Moor, in a stunning location on a promontory in Lake Schwerin. Based on the existing stables in Ludwigslust, court architect Georg Adolph Demmler submitted plans that were realized between 1838 and 1842, creating an ensemble of ideal unity between nature and architectural rigor. The stables received their current form between 1854 and 1873 through renovations and extensions by court architect Hermann Willebrand.
