The historic settlement of Dyerville was washed away by a flood in 1955. It was located at an elevation of 246 feet on the northwest bank of the confluence of the Eel River and the South Fork Eel River, 3 miles west of Camp Grant. The earliest known development in Dyerville was the operation of a ferry in the 1870s. Dyerville had its own post office from 1890 until 1933, when it was moved to South Fork. It was a stagecoach stop, shipping port and crossroads town that played an important role in the early settlement of this redwood area.
