At the Sint-Elisabethkerk in Zoersel you will find the statue of Marcel Kiekeboe. He is one of the main characters of the comic series De Kiekeboes, which is drawn and written by Merho, pseudonym of Robert Merhottein. Marcel, the father of the Kiekeboe family, has his birthday on October 24, just like the cartoonist.

On Sunday, August 26, 2007, the official unveiling of the Kiekeboe statue took place in Zoersel. It was commissioned by the city council and realized by the Temsese sculptor Valeer Peirsman. The choice to let the Temsenaar create the statue was Merho's own. The monument depicts Marcel Kiekeboe, sitting on a couch on the grassy square below the church tower. There is room next to him for an attendant, so that the monument lends itself perfectly to being photographed with the comic book hero, a possibility that was generously used from the very first moment.
